Our support group meets on the fourth Saturday of the month at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Collins.
Polio support conversation is the main event at our meetings. Here, attendees discuss the PPS issues they are facing. It is great to be listened to by people who understand Polio personally. Sometimes members have some suggestions of possible options to investigate. It’s important to realize that we can’t solve every problem – Polio is a tough nut. We can, however, listen to each other when other people in our lives may not. We also laugh a lot, which has been identified as the best medicine.
Every other month we invite a guest speaker to go more in depth on a Polio subject. Last year we had a great presentation and lunch as part of a personalized PPS clinic in Northern Colorado put on by Dr. Eulberg, Dee Vink, and Margaret Hinman. It was a great success.
We have some long-standing events like our summer picnic in August. We host outside at the church, so that we can hold it inside if the weather is questionable. Our Christmas lunch is another event we hold, typically a local restaurant with some space and good accessibility.
Our members jump in to help in a variety of ways, including presenting programs that interest them, organizing parts of our meeting, and calling people that don’t use email, so that I have a very modest workload. I could not do it without you!!!
